Christian Soldiers is an excerpt from the first movement of The Great War Symphony, a new work to be premiered in its entirety in London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2018. Patrick has made several versions of Christian Soldiers available for FREE for the public to perform as part of the WWI centenary commemorations.
In the original ORCHESTRAL arrangement, Arthur Sullivan’s well-known hymn tune ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ appears in the horns and trumpets against lush Elgarian legato strings.
The version for SATB choir & ORGAN is a direct transcription of Patrick’s original arrangement for orchestra. The rich sustained string textures of the original transfer well to the manual and pedal of the organ, while the four-part harmony of the choir singing Arthur Sullivan’s well-known hymn tune ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ create a sound world which is perfect as an introit or anthem.
In the original orchestral arrangement, the brass simply carries Arthur Sullivan’s melody. But the version for BRASS BAND recreates the lush string foundation in cornets and trombones.
All the arrangements are ideal for commemorative occasions as well as concert performance.
